These are all indicating advances in biology not in evolution. More: Evolution the Extended Synthesis. Understanding the adaptive changes that alter the function of proteins during evolution is an important question for biology and medicine. Well only time will tell, but again, one thing is certain, and that is, the modern synthesis as taught now is a house of cards. We hear new expressions in biological evolution like, modern synthesis, punctuated equilibrium and modern synthesis extended. The increasing Pigliucci M: Do we need an extended evolutionary synthesis?. Will the new paradigm as in the proposed extended synthesis (ala the Altenberg 16) answer the questions that need to be answered? I'll cite one of many articles that speak of its demise. The International Conference Modelling Biological Evolution 2013: Recent Progress, Current Challenges and Future Directions will be held at the University of Leicester on May 1-3, 2013. And last but not least, according to most evo devo and even a great many mainstream evolutionary biologist, the modern synthesis is effectively dead as a theory. The historian William Provine has also described the Synthesis as a constriction – while combining various biological subfields, the architects also rejected several alternative theories of evolution. The edition contains a foreword by the biologists Gerd Muller and Massimo Pigliucci (authors of Evolution: the Extended Synthesis, always from MIT) that explains facets of the actuality of the book. There are now calls for an extended synthesis but I can't comment on their merits.
